Wreath Making Supplies, Ribbon & Deco Mesh

Make an adjustable wired-ribbon bow

Build one full bow with loops and tails sized to suit your display.

Gather your supplies

Allow about 12 feet of ribbon and set aside two whole stems. A 10-yard roll leaves six yards outside that allowance; 48 stems remain outside the two-stem allowance.

This ribbon has a thicker edge and stiffer wire; take your time shaping the loops.

Shape the bow

  1. Curl a small center loop and hold its ribbon end beneath your thumb.
  2. Add larger loops on alternating sides, keeping their bases together. Make four loops per side. With a one-sided pattern, turn the ribbon at the center as each loop begins.
  3. Form one longer loop below the bow and bring it back to the center.
  4. Pass a chenille stem through the center loop, draw its ends behind the gathered ribbon, and twist them to secure it. Keep the second stem handy.
  5. Trim the ribbon end, separate and shape the loops, then cut the tails to your preferred length.

This makes an unattached bow; a wreath or other display is optional. Loop and tail lengths are adjustable.

Adapted from Liz Call's illustrated bow tutorial. The ribbon and teal stems are our selections.
