I could not get this wood to take the stain. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It's a water base stain. Could that be the problem that it's water base????

I love the way this wood looks when stained. I can’t find this grade of birch anywhere locally that cuts well in my own laser cutter. So, when I’m making a door hanger that I want the background stained, I use these blanks for the base.
