Deco Mesh Guide

Ever stand in front of a wall of deco mesh and wonder which one you actually need? Here's the thing: it comes down to three choices. Width, material and how many rolls.

This guide walks through each one, using what's on our own shelves.

What widths does deco mesh come in?

Most of our deco mesh comes in two width ranges: about 10 inches and about 21 inches. The exact width is on each listing, and it varies a little by style. You'll see 10", 10.25" and 10.5" in the 10-inch range.

  • 10-inch mesh is the biggest group we carry. Shop 10" mesh
  • 21-inch mesh gives you a wider piece to work with. Shop 21" mesh
  • A few fabric and sheer styles fall in between, like 17", 19" and 20". Read the width on the listing.

Heads up — width and roll length are two separate numbers. Most of our rolls are 10 yards long, and a few crinkle fabrics come in 5-yard rolls. Check both before you plan a project.

What types of deco mesh are there?

The material changes the look. These are the types you'll find in our mesh collections right now:

  • Poly burlap mesh gives you a burlap look in a mesh roll.
  • Faux jute / polypropylene mesh comes in stripes, checks and border stripes.
  • Metallic and foil mesh adds shine, including wide foil and border-stripe metallic styles.
  • Tinsel / foil mesh has tinsel worked into the mesh for extra sparkle.
  • Drift / polypropylene mesh includes wide border styles.
  • Fabric and sheer mesh are softer, including fabric mesh, sheer checks and crinkle fabric.

Similar colors don't mean two mesh types work the same way. If you're following a project, use the mesh it calls for.

How much deco mesh do I need?

It depends on your frame size and how full you want the wreath. There's no single number. Start with the project you're making and follow the amount it lists.

Here's one real example from our Pancake Wreath Frame bundle. You cut 20-inch pieces of mesh. If you make both the 10-inch and 14-inch frames, using six pieces on the smaller frame, one roll of mesh covers both wreaths.

Ribbon is easier to plan. Our ribbon guide gives a starting point for a standard deco mesh wreath: 2 rolls of 1.5-inch and 2 rolls of 2.5-inch wired ribbon.

What else goes with deco mesh?

Deco mesh wreaths usually use a wire frame or work wreath form, the mesh, a few wired ribbons, and a sign or picks. Grapevine wreaths often skip mesh entirely.

Deco mesh FAQ

What size deco mesh is most common?

In our shop, 10-inch mesh is by far the biggest group, with 21-inch mesh as the wide option. The exact width is on each listing.

How long is a roll of deco mesh?

Most of our mesh rolls are 10 yards. Some crinkle fabric styles are 5 yards. Check the listing for each roll.

Can I mix different mesh types on one wreath?

You can, but similar colors don't mean the materials behave the same. For a specific project, use the mesh type it calls for.

How many rolls of mesh do I need for a wreath?

It depends on the frame and how full you build it. As one example, the Pancake Wreath Frame bundle uses 20-inch pieces, and one roll covers both its 10-inch and 14-inch frames.
